Freshen up your Christmas decorations with bright winter plants in shiny planters! Or a good gift for a cook: fragrant herbs planted in a wooden wine box, from £12.

Cyclamen represent sincerity, while the name Rosemary is derived from the Latin of 'dew of the sea', because it needs no more water other than the humidity carried by the sea breeze to live...

Nov reds part 2

More crimsons, sunset safaris and rich red Cornish branches, this week with deep purple gladioli - you'll have to imagine the colour as they aren't open yet in the pictures! White Veronica and wax flower give bright accents.

Gladiolius, from the Latin for sword, symbolise strength and integrity. The August birth and 40th wedding anniversary flower. Morrissey fans might remember his performance on TOTP when he swung them round the place instead of a mic, in protest at being forced to mime...

Mini narcissus about to bloom!

Bring some cheer into your home with a pot of mini narcissus just ready to bloom! Available in glass bowls, storage jars or terracotta pots, from £5.

Seb & Carolla's wedding: white calla lilies

Plentiful in the bride's home country of Ecuador, white calla lilies symbolise purity, holiness and faith.

'Calla' lilies, meaning beautiful, first sprung from drops of milk that fell to earth from the breast of Hera, he wife of Zeus. The milk that remained in heaven formed the Milky Way...

Rachel's dinner party: white hydrangeas

Starring white hydrangeas, the 4th wedding anniversary flower, which symbolises friendship, devotion and understanding.

According to folklore, if a witch put a curse on an unlucky man or woman, hydrangea could be used to break the curse.

Autumn stars

This week I worked with white thistles, white roses and lilies and Ornithogalum Arabicum.

This lovely and very long lasting flower is also known as 'Star-of-Bethlehem' thanks to its star-shaped flowers, after the Star of Bethlehem that appeared at the birth of Jesus. I'm going to use this at Christmas time, and also in new baby bouquets...

Purple lisianthus and agapanthus in October

This week I worked with everyone's patio favourite - Agapanthus: strong and vibrant purple blooms mixed with delicate Queen Anne's Lace.

And Lisianthus - one of my very favourite flowers for their delicate twisted blooms and soft rose-like petals, paired with white roses.

To me Lisanthus spells R-O-M-A-N-C-E, but traditionally they represent charisma and congeniality, so are fit for a lover OR friend you admire for their va-va-voom!
